Aug. 31, 2012

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Three members of the University of Louisville women's lacrosse team advanced through the next stage of tryouts for Canada's 2013 Senior Women's National Team squad, inching closer to becoming part a team that competes at the 2013 World Cup.

Competing against 34 people, assistant coach Crysti Foote, redshirt senior Janaye Dzikewich and incoming freshman Kaylin Morissette were among moving on to the next round of tryouts. During the last selection process, Team Canada competed in the North American Challenge, which included facing the U.S. National Team and the Haudenosaunee National Team.

The squad is set to compete Oct. 4-7 at Stanford in the Stars and Stripes Tournament hosted by U.S. Lacrosse. The tournament will serve as the final selection event for the team.

Foote is entering her second season with the Cardinals after spending one season in the same role at her alma mater, Notre Dame. A highly decorate student-athlete, Foote was a two-time All-American, four-time all-region selection, garnered BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year once and was a three-time all-BIG EAST honoree. In 2006, the same season she was named the IWLCA's Attack Player of the Year, Foote was one of five Tewaaraton Trophy Finalists, an award presented to the top male and female collegiate lacrosse players in the country.

Dzikewich has appeared in 34 games for the Cardinals and has been a stalwart on the team's backline, including this past season, as she ranked second on the team in ground balls (35) and caused turnovers (21).

Morissette, a Bowmanville, Ontario, native, will join the team in the fall of 2012 following a stellar career at Bowmanville High. At the national level, she was a member of the U-19 Canadian National Lacrosse Team, earning the title of co-captain. In addition to helping the team win the bronze medal at the U-19 World Cup in Hannover, Germany, she was selected to the All-World Team and named MVP of the bronze medal game.
