Automotive/Equipment Mechanic
Salary:
$4,383.00 to $5,601.00 per month
(Anticipated hiring salary range: $4,383.00 to
$4,500.00 per month)
Overview:
Under the lead of the Coordinator of University Fleet Services and Farm Machinery, the mechanic
performs skilled work in overhaul, repair, maintenance, service and adjustment of campus automotive, farm machinery, maintenance and
construction equipment.
Position Summary:
- Repair and maintain automotive, agricultural and construction equipment;
- Inspect and perform diagnostic tests on vehicles and equipment to locate and determine the extent of necessary corrective action;
- Perform diagnostic tests on current vehicles and equipment using state of the art analyzers;
- Operate and maintain tools, machinery and computerized systems used in the maintenance, and repair of vehicles, farm machinery, maintenance and construction equipment;
- Troubleshoot and repair all systems and components;
- Make minor to major repairs to vehicles and/or equipment;
- Maintain Bureau of Automotive Repair smog reports;
- Estimate costs of materials and labor for maintenance and repairs;
- Maintain vehicle inspection, maintenance and repairing records using manual and/or computerized record keeping system;
- Fabricate, construct and/or modify new or special equipment, mechanical, engine and body parts;
- Provide instruction and lead direction to semi-skilled and unskilled assistants;
- Respond to emergency vehicle and equipment repair calls;
- Perform related assignments as required;
- Work effectively with faculty, students and staff from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio- economic backgrounds.
- Working knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations pertaining to vehicle and other power driven equipment, including Bureau of Automotive Repair regulations;
- Thorough knowledge of vehicle and equipment mechanics including theory of electrical, engine, power transmission, brake and hydraulic systems common on state of the art equipment and applicable state and federal regulations pertaining to automotive and other power-driven equipment, including applicable smog regulations;
- Ability to perform diagnostic tests on vehicles and equipment using state of the art analyzers;
- Perform mathematical calculations required by the job;
- Read and write at a level appropriate to the position;
- Use computer to obtain technical information required to trouble and analyze vehicle and equipment problems;
- Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers;
- Have a current valid California Driver's License and good driving record.
A combination of progressively responsible training and experience as an automotive and/or equipment mechanic which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard apprenticeship program in automotive technology, diesel technology, equipment technology and/or equivalent experience.
