According to leaders at the Alabama Baptist Children?s Homes and LifeLine Adoption, there are presently about 6,000 children in the state of Alabama requiring out-of-home care. Almost 1,500 of those exist in Shelby and Jefferson Counties alone. With approximately 300 licensed foster homes between those two counties, a huge deficit has occurred, leaving children unable to?receive?necessary intervention or placing them into overcrowded foster homes and/or residential facilities that do not meet their need for a family.
ENTER THE CHURCH!
Over the last year, a vision has emerged for seeing every child in crisis throughout our state cared for by a Christian family. Following the visionary call of David Platt to his congregation at The Church at Brook Hills ? and sensing a passion for foster care in their own heart ? a group of pastors and ministry leaders is currently developing a plan to implement this vision.
Please begin praying with us as we seek God?s wisdom about the ministry of foster care and adoption in our state. Ask the Lord to guide you and this ministry team into His plan for our future.
And may God help us as we care for the fatherless!
