The number of baby boomers using social networking sites like Facebook has grown by 60% in just 6 years.

A?national survey by the Pew Research Center?s Internet & American Life Project, found 65% adults use social media sites ? 32% of this figure were aged between 50 and 64, which is up by 12% from previous statistics and marks a 60% rise.

While seniors are testing the waters, many Baby Boomers are beginning to make a trip to the social media pool part of their daily routine.?

However, usage of social networking platforms grew the most among those aged 65 and over ? a third of this age group said they use social media, indicating a 7% rise from last year?s results.

Social media has experienced a massive rise in popularity since the introduction of Facebook and microblogging platform Twitter, which was launched just six years ago.
