What is Xpadder?
XPadder is a program used for mapping xbox 360?controller settings to your?keyboard and mouse on your computer. XPadder can be used to simulate the feel of an xbox 360 game and controller?if configured correctly by using only the buttons on the xbox 360 controller to play your computer game. Xpadder is now?a paid program but their are plenty of older versions floating around on the web for download and if you have?a maximum pc?magizine from a few years ago with cd?you will?have it on it most likely. In this article I will show the reader how to configure Xpadder for Starwars battlefront for PC??(excludes squad commands which i will add in the file download later) and talk about why xpadder is useful to the pc gamer. Why is Xpadder useful for pc gaming?
Xpadder is useful for pc gaming?because of? the ability to map controls to keyboard and mouse as described above. Xpadder can be mapped to many controls on the computer specific?to FPS (first person shooter)?games?such as?awsd?for character movement, the mouse?for viewing around the characters space, and left mouse click which is used for firing the characters gun.? Without xpadder some fps games on the pc would seem bland to some gamers or difficult with keyboard and mouse. In addition, the wired xbox controller is just as stable as a wired keyboard so configuring it will allow fast movement as with the keyboard. Okay now lets move on to configuration of XPadder (later i place a link at end of article for xpadder to download).Note: must have xbox controller connected to pc before attempting configuration steps below and have windows install the device driver (windows 7 highly recommended and windows xp is not? guaranteed to work with this example).
Configuring Xpadder for Starwars Battlefront (First person?mode) steps:
1. Open xpadder from unzipped folder and click the controller icon->new...2. Next open up the controller settings by clicking? My controller or what is displayed in figure 1 below.
figure 1 - my controller settings button in red
3. After you are in the controller settings go to the buttons tab and add?LT and RT buttons by pressing while having the tab selected and xpadder will automatically add them. These will be our fire and grenade buttons.
4. Next add the x, a, and y?buttons to what is on-screen.
5. On this step press the right analog stick in left, right, up, and down directions each one at a time.
6. repeat step 6 for left analog stick.
7. Optional for zoom: click left analog stick down and you should get a box for it being pressed down and it seperate from the circle that appears on-screen. You should also do this for the right analog stick. Required for zoom: add RB button.
8. add start button with the other buttons while still on the buttons tab. Your buttons on-screen should look like figure 2 (excluding optional boxes in middle of circle in picture below for zoom while in-game).
figure 2 - controller configuration/settings dialog after following steps above.
9. Go back to the main screen in xpadder because your controller settings save automatically when you close controller settings dialog.
10. Now assign the keys and mouse controls to proper xbox control we created above. The configuration?should be like the picture in figure?3 when done (keys assigned are shown in picture except i need to add z for zoom?to RB button mapping but is depending on your config in step 7).
