Auto Repair and Vehicle Troubleshooting

Article by Morrison?s Discount Auto Repair

A lot of things can go wrong with your vehicle but there are certain common car problems we usually encounter. Auto repair shops probably get these problems more than once in a day?s work. If your vehicle breaks down, the last thing you should do is panic or get mad. Knowing a bit about auto repair and maintenance basics can save you a lot of trouble (and money), and so, here are some things to keep in mind.

According to most auto repair shops, vehicle parts that often get in trouble are the brakes, the transmission engine, and the AC. Brake repair and AC repair are less expensive than getting the transmission fixed but nonetheless, you?ll still be spending for something relatively expensive.

Brake repair is necessary if you?re experiencing these instances with your vehicle: (1) Noisy brakes, (2) The brake pedal keeps vibrating (3) The pedals are too stiff. Noisy brakes are often caused by word brake pads or lack of lubrication. You might need to replace the caliper hardware, replace the pads, clean the brakes, or dampen the pads. The auto repair shop will do either one or two of these solutions. In the case of stiff pedals, the usual brake repair treatment involves fixing or replacing the vacuum hose or booster. Sometimes, a faulty check valve will allow vacuum to bleed out of the booster causing a hard pedal when the brakes are applied. Auto repair shops diagnose this condition by starting the engine (to build vacuum), shutting it off, waiting four or five minutes, then trying the brakes to see if there is power assist. No assist means a new check valve is needed. Lastly, a pulsating or vibrating brake pedal indicates a warped brake rotor that needs to be resurfaced or replaced. Wheel bearings might also need attention in such cases as well so have the auto repair shop check them out.

AC repair is often an immediate need for places like Tampa due to the tropical weather. The most common complaint with ACs happen when the unit stops producing cool air. The most likely cause of an automotive air conditioner cooling problem is that there?s no refrigerant in the system. If the refrigerant has escaped past a leaky compressor or O-ring seal, leaked out of a pinhole in the evaporator or condenser, or seeped out through a leaky hose, the leak needs to be identified and repaired before the system is recharged. Leaky units are the most common cause for an unscheduled AC repair stopover so always have the auto repair shop look for leaks when you?re getting a general check up.

According to an auto repair shop, leaks can be found by adding special dye to the system (available in pressurized cans premixed with refrigerant), an electronic leak detector, or plain old soapy water (spray on hose connections and watch for bubbles-requires adding some refrigerant to system first and turning the A/C on). Once you?ve found a leak, AC repairs should be made prior to fully recharging the system. Most AC repairs on leaks involve replacing O-rings, seals or hoses. But if the evaporator or condenser is leaking, repairs can get a lot more expensive.

When it comes to common auto problems, transmission damage is the most complex and expensive. Transmission repairs could set you back from 0-00, depending on what needs to be fixed or replaced. Costs also depend on whether your car runs on manual or automatic clutch transmission. Manual transmissions are usually more reliable than automatics so transmission repair is more undergone by the latter.

For auto repair needs such as brake repair, AC repair, transmission repair, custom exhaust installation, and general check up, look for a reliable and trusted auto repair vendor in your area.
