Japan claimed its first East Asian Cup crown with a 2-1 win over host Korea Republic at Seoul's Olympic Stadium on Sunday night.

Two goals from Kakitani Yoichiro did the job for Japan in front of a crowd of 47,000 fans, with the clincher coming in injury time after Korea's Yun Il-Lok had cancelled out his first half opener.

The Blue Samurai, the current Asian Cup champion, ended the tournament with seven points from its three matches, two points in front of second-placed China.

Korea Republic finished third with two points, while Australia lagged last on the ladder with only one point.
