What's the point of a cheaper iPhone? I'm really not sure I understand the business model behind a "cheaper iPhone". I feel like the current model of discounting older models is a great model. A lower priced model will probably be equivalent to last years model anyway. I agree with others as well -- I have cell phone model upgrade fatigue. There are so many announcements and phones being introduced it's actually getting quite old. I love all the technology, but the market is just flooded and nothing really wows anymore (perhaps because we see so much now).

Apple can't scale. Up till now last year's model was the "cheaper model" Now they are going to try with a "new cheap" model. It won't work. People buy iPhones for the quality. At this point if people aren't buying iPhones it is because they don't want one, not because they can't afford one. The exceptions are India and CHina where Apple is getting its ass handed to it by Windows Phone and Android....but the large difference there is Nokia is producing quality and affordable phones and enough people are getting them to realize the OS really is better than iOS. -- "WHEN THE LAUGH TRACK STARTS THEN THE FUN STARTS!"

Cheaper iPhone The cheaper iPhone will probably target the prepaid market where people refuse to pay $649 (and up) for a phone. I'll stick with my iPhone 5 until I'm upgrade eligible 18 months from Dec 2012 (when I bought my current iPhone 5). As long as the phone accesses the VZW LTE network, its fine by me. That LTE network is like a mobile cable modem although it is a battery killer. I have to charge my phone every night or I'll be stuck on the go without a phone. -- I've experienced ImOn (when they were McLeod USA), Mediacom, Comcast, and Time Warner and I currently have DirecTV. They are much better than broadcast TV. I have not and will not cut the cord.

Average use I can go two days... heavy use (rare) it'll still easily last to the end of the work day and more.

Re: Cheaper iPhone It might depend on location or if it's constantly looking for a signal as well - I have great LTE reception at work. However, if I'm in Dallas and have low signal levels or it's switching between 3g/LTE, it drains significantly faster which is to be expected. I send/receive large amounts of e-mail every day & use it for scheduling purposes as well & frequent phone calls. Pretty decent battery life though. It outdoes my Android phone by far..

Sometimes my phone connects to EVDO instead of LTE (especially in the Northampton/Amherst area and up in Maine). GSM is gentler on batteries than CDMA.
