This movie is essentially a sci-fi suspense thriller version of Groundhog Day, except it's more plot heavy (actually has a real plot), and everything is confined to the plot and set goals, unlike the Murray film which was left open for lots of freedom and flexibility. That's not a problem though, because the plot is good, and the film has some really neat ideas and concepts. It does get a tad formulaic, but it's not completely predictable. It's also not overly sappy or super convoluted, unlike Inception. I loved that film, but it was far more grand and operatic, whereas this one is more intimate. It's not a full-on indie, as Jones has a bigger budget here than he did with Moon, but this is just as cool and compelling, and he's already becoming a director to watch. The cast and their performances are pretty good. Everyone seems pretty well suited to their roles, and I thought Jake was maybe the best choice for this. Monaghan was good, and she has decent chemistry with Gyllenhaal, but I kinda wanted to see her do more. Farmiga is also really good. What I liked about this movie was that it doesn't insult your intelligence, but it's not too whacked out either. That said though, the ending could have been a bit better explained. I was able to follow the film just fine up until then, and then I started to get confused. That's okay though because some quick internet searching swiftly cleared thigns up, and now it makes more sense. Still though, that's a fault, ven if it's just a small one.Give this one a shot. It's got a pretty tight script, solid direction, it's attention holding and suspenseful, and is pretty impressive given it's relatively low key size and scale.
