Sony Xperia J leaked ahead of IFA, budget phone with ICS

Sony Xperia J official pictures leak ahead of launch

Sony has yet another all-new Xperia handset in the pipeline, with pictures of the Xperia J (ST26i) leaking out early ahead of IFA. Based on its specs, the new handset is aimed at budget conscious users, but should offer a solid smartphone experience. It centers on a 4.0-inch 854x480 display, but importantly comes with Android 4.0 'Ice Cream Sandwich' preinstalled.

The Xperia J utilizes Qualcomm 7227A 1GHz single-core processor paired with 512MB of RAM, which should be sufficient to keep the OS operating smoothly (the Nexus S has similar specs and functions well on both ICS and 'Jelly Bean). It will also have a larger than average 1700mAh battery although reports vary on whether it will incorporate a microSD slot to bolster what will be at least 8GB of onboard storage. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera and 0.3-megapixel VGA front camera.

The device also picks up some styling cues from Sony's 2011 Android flagship smartphone, the Xperia arc. The curved back is reminiscent of that model's design, although it otherwise adopts similar plastics and build to the rest of Sony's burgeoning 2012 range of Android smartphones which is approaching around 20 models when variants are taken into account.
